Exciting, I know. Fortunately, it was broadcast on ESPN so I was able to watch the game instead of just reading about it.

I must say, it was quite a nail biting game. It the early innings, Randy Johnson looked as though his injuries had flared up again and Joe Torre was considering keeping him in. Lucky he did because the Yanks were able to pull it off with a 4-3 win against the Seattle Mariners.

They will take on the Mariners again tonight in the Bronx under the arm of the rookie Chien-Ming Wang who is 1-1 in his major league start.

On another note, I'm glad we got Tino Martinez back in the Bronx. His bat has been on fire lately with 3 home runs in just the past three games. More specifically, it has been noted that the Yanks are "too old" for this game. This may be true. Randy Johnson, Bernie Williams, and even Gary Sheffield are getting up there in age to name a few.

After watching a news report in which Brian Cashman (General Manager) was being blamed for his scouting efforts, I decided to do a little research. I came upon an article saying that Mel Stottlemyre (Pitching Coach) may be in jeopardy of losing his job if the pitching doesn't improve. This hit a bit of a nerve cause I'm sure its not that he's telling the pitchers the wrong way to pitch. But maybe we have the wrong PITCHERS. (Which would be Cashman's fault, I never really liked the guy anyway.)

Joe Torre defended his main man:
--"I think it's very unfair to lay this at the feet of Mel Stottlemyre. You'd hate to think you'd blame a guy who has given his body and soul to this organization, who has sat here in good times and bad and been an upright, upstanding gentleman."

--"I'm the one that's responsible for Mel. George is obviously impatient -- and I don't blame him. We're certainly not living up to what we're supposed to be and what he needs for us to be."

--"If you're going to give anybody the blame, I'm the captain of the ship. I'm the one that's really responsible for everything."

Aww... Joe Torre, you're cute. Sticking up for Mel... awww.

At this point in the season, a lot of people are beginning to question who will get the boot if things don't start improving from the Yanks (including myself). Personally, I think that Cashman should go.

WHAT DO YOU THINK? Which of the following (if any) do YOU think will get the boot if the Yanks don't start improving their season?

- Joe Torre (Head Coach)?
- Mel Stottlemyre (Pitching Coach)?
- Brian Cashman (GM) ?
- Other:

Give me your feedback, and I'll let you know what others think too!

The Yanks are on a WINNING STREAK!

Hey, winning two games in a row is pretty impressive for the Yanks. I had the pleasure of being home this past weekend to observe their amazing feat. Before the game, the opposing team's short stop was talking about how they "don't want to be the team that the Yankees come out of their slump against..." Well, we did!

Granted, the Yanks did lose the first game of the series they were able to come back the next day on the arm of Mike Mussina who was able to pitch a complete game with a 5-0 win over the Oakland A's.

"I think the tension level was high in more than just the dugout. I think the entire tri-state area's tension has gone up since we haven't been playing that good. "
- Mike Mussina, NY Yankees pitcher

The following day, Kevin Brown was able to take that momentum and drive it forward with another win over the A's. Can you believe it?? TWO IN A ROW! I was in my glory.

"With every win, we're closer to convincing ourselves that we're starting to play the way we can."
- Joe Torre, NY Yankees Head Coach

The Yanks will get that chance tonight against the Seattle Mariners @ 7:05 on ESPN!!

AS@l@*$@&&hf !!!!!!!!!

As you can tell by my smashing of my keyboard as my title ... the Yanks lost AGAIN last night. And yet again, to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays who are working their way up from last place in the AL East. Not only do we not have good pitching ... but our starters are getting hurt too. Last night, Sean Henn came up from playing AA baseball in Trenton to fill in for Randy Johnson who injured his groin.

Nothing good can come from a nervous rookie. And the Devil Rays took advantage of that and beat the Yanks 11-8

George Steinbrenner made his first appearance of the season at Tropicana field last night. And what a game did he pick to watch. No pressure guys. I can only imagine how unbearable it was for him to watch his money slip away like that. (Don't worry George, at least you still have your horse in the Derby this weekend ;-) )

But don't worry fans, Brian Cashman (General Manager of the NY Yanks) assures us differently:
"It's not a good time if you're with the Yankees. But we'll grind through it, I promise you that."

Okay Brian, I'm taking your word on that one...

This Is EMBARASSING!!! ...

The Yanks lost today. To the worst team in the league the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. This was supposed to be the series that "would turn it all around" for the Yanks. How could they lose this terribly to the Devil Rays?? (The official score: Devil Rays 11 - Yanks 4).

JUST PLAIN EMBARASSING

After their win yesterday, Joe Torre decided that he wanted to switch the lineup a little to see if it would somehow benefit the Yanks. Lesson learned. Joe, you can't play around with baseball like this. You're driving us fans nuts!

Please, can we please please please fix this. I'm starting to get worried. Is this "hole" that the Yankees "dug themselves into" really a hole? Cause I'm beginning to think that this is how the season is going to be... embarassing.

Prove me wrong Yanks... Yes, 1991.

Fortunately, the Yanks were able to pull it off today (just barely) against the Toronto Blue Jays with a 4-3 win. Rookie pitcher Chien-Ming Wang debuted in Yankee stadium today and left the crowd screaming for more. Finally, someone who can PITCH.

Joe Torre said:
"The kid pitched really well, it has to go a long way toward his next start."
He then went on to call this start one of the strongest that he could recall in his 9 years at Yankee Stadium.

Well it looks like Chien-Ming Wang may be sticking around for a while. Jaret Wright will be out for another 5 weeks with a sore shoulder. Wang will be taking his spot in the starting rotation.

Maybe this could be the sign that turns everything around...

Can we get on some sort of routine here?

Win. Lose. Win 2. Lose 3. Maybe I'm spoiled and I've seen the Yankees win more than 5 games in a row with only 1 loss here and there. I can't get used to this torture. Just when I think we're on a roll. We get knocked down a few games. The yanks are currently 5 games behind the Oriole, who are leading the AL East Division. We still have time (I hope).

Last night was another disappointment. The Yankees lost to the Angels 1-5. But that one run that the Yankees DID manage to put up there on the board was from none other than Alex Rodriguez's solo home run shot. At least one thing is consistent in Yankee baseball.

On another note:
Chien-Ming Wang will make his first major league start this Saturday against the Blue Jays. After Jaret Wright injured his shoulder, the Yanks needed someone to step in. They looked to their minor league in Columbus for someone to fill in. Wang was a member of the Chinese-Taipei Olympic baseball team and does have some pretty impressive numbers in the minor leagues. Maybe he will be able to spruce up what the Yankees need most: BETTER PITCHING!

A-Rod : I love you!

What an amazing night. They haven't even been playing 1 month yet. It could still get better. This weekend, they played a 3-game series against the Texas Rangers. The result? Well ... they won ONE game. At least it wasn't a shut out.

A familiar face returned to Yankee Stadium on Friday night. Alfonso Soriano, (Yankees former second baseman, now playing for the Rangers) came back to Yankee stadium for only the second time since being traded two years ago. As some of you may remember, Soriano was an up and coming baseball star. But he had his flaws. A particular memory brings me back to the Division Series. I sat watching my T.V., FRUSTRATED, that Soriano was performing so badly. His problem: he got ahead of himself and in my opinion was a little too cocky. Sure, you're playing for the New York Yankees, but don't stop taking your job seriously! As news has it, he will become a free agent in 2006 and he isn't ruling out the Yanks as a possibiity.

"I'm not thinking it. I don't want to put something in my mind that I don't know if it will happen or not. If it happens, it happens. I'm not thinking like I'm coming back. If I think it and it doesn't happen, I'll be a little frustrated." -Alfonso Soriano-

I guess we'll have to see what happens...

Lets keep it going ...

So it turns out that the little statement Steinbrenner gave his team did some magic. The Yanks are on a 2 game winning streak heading into a series against the Texas Rangers this weekend at Yankee Stadium. I know its only 2 games, but its a start. Unfortunately, the Yanks are in fourth place in the AL East standings . I'm not worried though. Its only April. They still have 4 months till they should start to worry. I just wish I could watch the games. That's what I miss about home. They have a channel there called the YES Network . It is a station devoted to the New York Yankees. They cover EVERY SINGLE baseball game. When a game isn't on, they have other news and coverage such as Yankeeography (a personal favorite), where they highlight a particular player and talk about their life growing up and the accomplishments they've had. They also have "Yankee Classics", where they show some of the most memorable game in baseball. From the ever famous "no hitter" game for Roger Clemens to Derek Jeter's leap into the stands to save the game (see picture below.) And if you ever miss a game, they usually replay it later in the evening or the following morning.

More to come later!

Before:

After:

There's no violence in baseball!!

It seems lately that my blog has been filled with so much anger. Boston - you suck!! Your fans are rude. You may ask "why is she acting like this??? ... "

The answer is simple. On Friday night's game (April 15) against the Red Sox @ Fenway Park in Boston, a rowdy (most likely drunk) fan decided to take it upon himself to smack Gary Sheffield (right fielder for the Yankees) upside the head as he was trying to retrieve a ball. Take it as you may, you can watch the clip over and over again but I still believe this is what happened:

Some un-classy Boston fan, decided that he was going to be a jerk and hit Gary Sheffield in the face as he was trying to field the ball. But he was smart, he tried to make it look like an accident. However, if anyone thinks the fan was trying to RETRIEVE the ball off the field, you are entirely too wrong. Retrieving the ball would require one to actually look at the ball when trying to pick it up. This fan obviously was looing in the complete opposite direction of his hand as he hit Sheffield in the face. Of course Sheffield almost punched the guy out, but he has more class than Boston and would never stoop to that level. He held his composure and walked away.

What did Boston do!? Boston just threw him to the streets. Did they arrest him? No. They just took away his season tickets. Poor baby. Unbelievable.

Enough is Enough

I know that it is a little late but something needs to be said. George Steinbrenner is FURIOUS with the performance of the Yankees. Its so hard to believe that the highest paid baseball team in the MLB could be LOSING this much. Its such a big disappointment. The statement that George Steinbrenner made is what shocked me the most!!! :

"Enough is enough. I am bitterly disappointed, as I am sure all Yankee fans are, by the lack of performance by our team. It is unbelievable to me that the highest-paid team in baseball would start the season in such a deep funk. They are not playing like true Yankees. They have the talent to win, and they are not winning. I expect Joe Torre, his complete coaching staff and the team to turn this around."
--- George Steinbrenner, owner of the NY Yankees---

If I were the Yankees, I would be putting my act together soon or they may be finding themselves playing for the minor leagues sometime in the near future ...

Certainly an un-happy fan right now.

Now that the Yankees 2005 season is in full-swing, I feel its about time for an update. Since my last post, the Yankees lost miserably to the Orioles. My excuse this time will be that Carl Pavano (a new acquisition) just isn't used to how it feels to be a Yankee yet. That sounds like a good reason... right...

Anyway, as for you Red Sox fans ... you can prance around all you want. Big deal, you won ONE GAME. But we still beat you in the first TWO! AND we embarassed you in the first. And don't even try to pull that "But we won the world series" thing on me. Big deal, one time in 80-something years isn't really much to be proud of. We've won 26!!! How do you like them apples? I'd be surprised if you could pull it off this year too .. in fact, I'll give up chocolate for a year if the Red Sox are able to pull it off this year too...

On a separate note...
It was definitely UN-COOL to hit Derek Jeterin the head with a pitch. Granted, it was a wild pitch and what-not but, I think that this pitcher should be FIRED! I have better aim than him! Maybe I'm just mad that he hit him.

And so it begins ...

Thankfully enough, I was home for spring break when the Yankees opened up their 2005 season against the RedSox on Sunday. I must say that I was feeling a little on edge. It just so happened to be that the Yankees would be opening their season against the defending National Champs who also happened to be their biggest rival in baseball history. Could this be any more perfect?? Let me give a quick rundown:

Randy Johnson, the Yankees newest starting pitcher (and most talked about) would start the game

David Wells, an ex-Yankee, would be starting on the mound for the RedSox (big no-no in Yankee Fan world)

Matsui starts the night off right by robbing a two-run home run from Kevin Millar that sets the tone for the remainder of the game

David Wells LOADS the bases and then WALKS a run in because he "balked" ... oops!(note: this is when a pitcher winds up to make a pitch then steps off the mound thus advancing all runners.

Tino Martinez returned to Yankee Stadium (after being traded to the Devil Rays 2 years back) and makes and UNBELIEVABLE save at first base in the 7th inning

Matsui (who I think should have been the player of the game) hits a two-run homer in the 8th

Despite a 1-0 lead by the RedSox in the 2nd inning, the Yanks were able to come back to win in for New York 9-2

What happened to the National Champs huh? The Yankees pretty much EMBARASSED them on Sunday!! I couldn't be any happier!!!!

My boys are back!

It may have been a rough start, but the Yankees are starting to return to their winning habits. Yes, I'm quite aware that it is only a "split-squad" in which many of the starters only play a few innings and their replacements take over for the remainder of the game... but its still quite satisfying. The lineup for this years' squad has been talked about since the disappointing (and embarassing) end to last season. It finally culminated with the addition of Randy Johnson, all star pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks. The outlook for this season is hopfull amid the steroid scandal that rocked the world of MLB earlier last year (thanks to Jason Giambi). Regardless, the season home opener should be intense as the Yankees are set to play their long-time rival, the Boston Red Sox. It should be interesting to see how the Sox can handle themselves without the help of Pedro Martinex, their hard throwing pitcher, as he has signed a contract with the New York Mets (hm... even more interesting). Needless to say, I'm more than excited to get this season finally underway and watch my boys bring back the World Series back to the Bronx. And maybe I'm a little premature in hopes and dreams, but this season will be nothing short of amazing. On another note, I just bought tickets last night to a game in July! I paid a pretty penny for these seats

Whats With All The Hate??

Since coming to the University of Delaware, I have heard more hatred about the Yankees than one girl can handle! Don't be jealous cause the Philadelphia Eagles didn't win the Super Bowl and the Philadelphia Phillies just plain aren't good. Philly Teams just can't cut it. But don't hate New York because we're good. I'll admit the Yankees do have a lot of money but that's not the main reason why they are so good! First of all, Joe Torre is probably one of the best managers in baseball. And although George Steinbrenner isn't a friendly man, he knows what to do with his "business" and he gets the job done. Lastly, they probably have some of the best player in the game. Derek Jeter, A-Rod, Randy Johnson, just to name a few. I couldn't be more excited for Opening Day. Only 41 days away!

Hooray!

Yay for finally being able to conquer this blog task.
